Abyss

Synopsis

Go Se Yeon is a skilled prosecutor whose life ends in a sudden accident. Through a mysterious object known as the Abyss, she is revived, but her new appearance reflects the true nature of her spirit rather than her former beauty. Around the same time, Cha Min, the heir to a major cosmetics company, also dies in an accident. He is kind and intelligent but has long struggled with low confidence. When the Abyss brings him back, he returns with a striking new look shaped by the goodness of his character.

Faced with their unexpected second lives, Se Yeon becomes an attorney at a private law firm while Cha Min joins her as an administrator. As they work together, they try to understand the rules behind the Abyss and why it chose them. Their search leads them into hidden truths surrounding their deaths and the people connected to them. While navigating these mysteries, their partnership deepens, drawing them toward a new understanding of themselves and each other.

Triangle Details

No external romantic threat. The issues are internal: pacing, inconsistent writing, and awkward timing of romance scenes during darker crime arcs.

My Notes / Opinions

A high-concept fantasy premise with wasted potential. The romance is small, occasionally cute, but often overshadowed by chaotic plotting and genre clashes. Chemistry is mild, the pacing wobbles, and the show never fully decides if it wants to be a rom-com, mystery, or fantasy thriller. The leads are likeable, but the overall execution makes the romance feel secondary and uneven.
