Lovers of the Red Sky

Synopsis

Hong Chun Ki grows up blind but mysteriously regains her sight. With natural talent and a fierce love for art, she becomes the first woman accepted into the royal painting academy. Her life changes when she meets Ha Ram, an astrologer who lost his vision in an accident yet reads the stars with exceptional skill.

As Chun Ki advances in her craft, she and Ha Ram form a deep bond that grows into romance. Their connection places them in the middle of rising tension within the palace, where Prince Yang Myung seeks freedom while Prince Joo Hyang pursues power and the throne. Caught between love, destiny, and political struggle, Chun Ki and Ha Ram must protect each other while facing forces far greater than themselves.

The 2ML is more of an occasional presence than a real obstacle. Some moments feel intrusive, but the FL never wavers toward him.

My Notes / Opinions

A fantasy romance with strong early momentum but noticeable pacing shifts in the second half. The early episodes deliver fast, engaging chemistry between the leads, including multiple kisses and clear emotional attraction. However, the romance becomes quieter as the show leans more into supernatural lore, political tension, and multi layered plot mechanics. The ML frequently pulls away due to inner conflict, creating a repetitive push and pull dynamic.

Later episodes introduce chaotic plot turns, dense lore, and several back to back twists that overshadow the couple’s development. The final episode ends on a positive note with a future time skip and a family outcome, though the logic behind the FLs sight is unclear to me tbh. Despite inconsistencies, the romance is solid early on, the FL is extremely charming, and the emotional tone shines in key scenes. A mixed but overall enjoyable historical-fantasy romance.
