Last Summer

Synopsis

Baek Do Ha and Baek Do Yeong are twin brothers separated after their parents’ divorce. Do Ha grows up in the United States, while Do Yeong remains in South Korea with their father. Every summer, Do Ha returns for exactly twenty one days, staying in the same duplex and briefly rejoining the life he left behind.

During those summers, the twins spend time with their neighbor Song Ha Gyeong, whose family is close to theirs. Ha Gyeong grows up clashing with Do Ha, then slowly develops feelings she never dares to confess, knowing his visits always end. Summer becomes the only season where their connection exists.

Years later, they reunite as adults. Do Ha is now a skilled architect, and Ha Gyeong works as a public official in the same field. A serious incident from two years earlier still lingers between them and the twins, reshaping their relationships. As past emotions resurface, they must confront what was left unsaid and decide whether this reunion is another brief season or something that can finally last.

Triangle Details

The triangle feels unnecessary and frustrating. It’s introduced despite the main couple already having heavy emotional baggage, and it derails momentum rather than adding meaningful tension.

My Notes / Opinions

This drama had me confused and annoyed at first because the FL is just constantly mad at the ML with zero context, so you’re forced to sit in bad vibes for multiple episodes wondering what the hell his crime even is. Once the situation is actually explained, though, her anger makes complete sense.

When the show focuses on just the ML and FL, it’s genuinely really good. The push pull works, their shared past hits, and the chemistry is strong once things calm down. Episodes 4 to 6 were honestly great. The ML is sincere, persistent in a quiet way, and clearly still in love, and the FL slowly softening was really nice to watch.

Then the drama decides to completely sabotage itself with an unnecessary love triangle. The FL suddenly dating the lawyer guy is illogical, frustrating, and feels like pure filler to delay the obvious endgame. It killed the momentum so hard that I dropped it once I found out this nonsense lasts for multiple episodes.

This could have been a really solid, emotional romance if it trusted its main couple instead of forcing triangle drama. The core story works. The writing choices mid series absolutely do not. And literally all of the problems they had with each other could have been resolved if they just fucking decided to talk it out, like, genuinelly talk it out and not just beat around the bush. Nah man I’m actually kinda mad at this……
