My Dearest Nemesis

Synopsis

Baek Su Jeong carries an embarrassing memory from her teenage years. In high school, she formed a crush on an online game player known as Black Dragon. The truth shattered her expectations when he turned out to be a younger student, leaving her humiliated and resentful.

Sixteen years later, Su Jeong is a top planner at a leading department store. She is direct, capable, and unafraid to challenge authority. Her routine breaks when a new executive arrives to lead strategic planning. The man is Ban Ju Yeon, the company heir.

Ju Yeon is also Black Dragon. He remembers Su Jeong as his first love and his first rejection. Now reunited as boss and subordinate, both must confront their unresolved past. Old misunderstandings resurface as they navigate work, pride, and feelings that never fully disappeared.

My Notes / Opinions

For me, this was a smooth, low drama rom com that mostly just works without trying too hard to manufacture villains or chaos. The main couple gets cute and stays cute, and the only antagonist energy is really just the ML’s strict grandmother, who ends up softening anyway. The biggest standout for me is how much I loved the second couple, and while they get less screen time, whenever they show up, they hit so well it’s almost a toss up whether I like them more than the main pairing, and they gave me Business Proposal second couple vibes. Also the ML had to have taken a lot of inspiration from What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, as a lot of the manerism he has heavily remind of the ML from that drama. The only parts that genuinely annoyed me were a few familiar rom com beats (the blind date detour, the breakup regret loop that resolves fast), but overall I finished it feeling like it was solid the whole way through. The one constant negative for me is the insane amount of obvious product placement, especially the repeated chocolate candy and chocolate milk pushes and the car ads.
