Law and the City

Synopsis

An Ju Hyeong is a senior associate lawyer in his ninth year who values logic and efficiency over ideals. He is respected for his skill and earns record pay, yet has no interest in opening his own firm. Law is a job to him, not a mission. His stable routine begins to shift as changes ripple through his workplace.

Kang Hui Ji is a junior lawyer with a warm and open personality. She believes legal work can change lives and approaches each case with conviction. Her arrival disrupts the balance of the group, especially because she shares a past connection with Ju Hyeong that he does not remember.

Alongside colleagues Bae Mun Jeong, Cho Chang Won, and Ha Sang Gi, the lawyers navigate demanding cases, career pressure, and personal doubts. They build camaraderie through shared meals and daily routines in Seocho legal district. As their professional lives evolve, so do their views on justice, ambition, and what it means to grow as both lawyers and people.

My Notes / Opinions

This is a very grounded, mature drama where romance is intentionally kept quiet and minimal. Once the main couple gets together, there’s no manufactured drama or big romantic beats. They’re just… together. More affectionate, calmer, and supportive, without much happening on screen romance wise.

What really makes the show work is the consistent focus on interesting legal cases and realistic work situations. Unlike similar law dramas that shift into heavy personal conflict or forced tension midway (looking at you Beyond the Bar), this one stays case driven all the way through, which I appreciated a lot.

The ending fits the tone perfectly. Overall, I liked this drama a lot, even if the romance itself was never the main draw.
